for a better society.
HAVE deploys unique solutions that prevent and alleviate pressing social issues in Vietnam by utilizing innovations and disciplinary practices across different engineering domains, which is only possible due to the invaluable support from the wider Vietnamese society.
With a network of devoted engineers and compassionate donors, HAVE aims to bring dynamic engineering & technology applications to solve complex real-life social issues. The issues are specifically chosen at the crossroad where the nonexistence of long-term profits prevents innovative enterprises from exploring potential solutions.
The range of social issues is neither limited in scope nor nature; but should only be endeavored once HAVE determines we have sufficient capacity in domain knowledge, engineering expertise, and funding to pursue a solution to an impactful outcome.
We have successfully registered as a legal Non-profit Social Enterprise in June. Our commitment is to retain and reinvest 100% of profits into community projects that fulfill our mission and vision.
our certificateHavePaws is the first project undertaken by HAVE. This project aims to alleviate the negative social impacts caused by the illegal Dog & Cat Meat Trade (DCMT) industry in Vietnam and its subsequent fallout effects.
In Vietnam, the DCMT results in numerous legal, medical and safety risks that seriously affect the community.
In 2020
were brutally slaughtered for meat. The majority of them were illegally captured and murdered pets, beloved by owners.
Public Health
DCMT creates an ideal environment for the spread of existing diseases (like rabies) and the emergence of new zoonotic diseases (similar to the COVID-19 outbreak).
Social Order & Security
Pet thefts occur in many areas, rural and urban alike, sparking outrage and distress among the community. This leads to unwanted violence fueled by anger from owners towards thieves, resulting in serious (sometimes even fatal) consequences.
On the economic front, the tourism industry in Vietnam accounts for nearly 10% of the GDP, creating more than 6 million direct and more than 2 million indirect jobs. The data in the FOUR PAWS survey below shows the importance of building a tourism-friendly image is synonymous with building a safe society that inhibits animal abuse.
Source: Four Paws
Agreed that tourism companies must take animal welfare seriously
Agreed that tourism companies should not promote locations where animals are held captive
Said that they will complain to the tourism company if they feel an animal is being abused
Said that they will step up to help when they see an abused animal
Agreed that they will not visit the country again after such experience
Agreed that seeing animals being abused will negatively affect their holiday
We created the HavePaws mobile app as a solution to the aforementioned issues. The app aims to alleviate negative consequences from pet theft by reconnecting lost pets with owners, push for higher transparency and better food safety in DCMT, and contribute to building a more civilized and tourist-friendly national image of Vietnam in the eyes of international friends and visitors.
Utilize image processing AI in recognizing and automatically matching images of lost dogs and cats with found reports to help owners and finders connect as quickly as possible.
A smart map feature to showcase pet-related stores and services, helping businesses to increase their market reach while allowing owners to easily find services and products that best match their needs.
A standardized adoption process for rescued dogs and cats with software support in the filtering/profile review stage. This aims to save time and costs for rescue organizations, expand the reach of possible adopters, as well as increase transparency amongst parties.
